Luxembourg was a LIFT donor that contributed a total of USD1,147,000.

Luxembourg lends its support to developing countries and has a commitment to allocate 1 per cent of its GDP to official development assistance. Luxembourg often focuses on the sectors of rural development, health and vocational training such as in the tourism sector.

Luxembourg’s contribution to LIFT complemented other funding placed in the rural sector in Myanmar, especially support to people living in remote and poor areas in eastern Shan State. Luxembourg was particularly engaged with LIFT’s activities relating to floods.

Luxembourg’s activities in rural development in similar socio-economic environments in the region led to a request by Myanmar authorities for assistance in human resource development in the tourism and hospitality sector. Given the priorities of the Myanmar Government in addressing poverty challenges and Luxembourg’s previous experience, Luxembourg identified rural development as a critical focal sector for engagement in Myanmar.
